The Mystery at Mare Secundus (What Happened Here?)

The Mysterious "2" Shaped Islands

The standard tourism blurb reads like this:

"Mare Secundus (Second Sea) is a large, ancient inland sea within the Sansara continent, created as a secondary waterway for users to sail and explore. It features many points of interest, including shipwrecks, treasure, and islands with various themes, making it a great destination for diving and boat activities."

But what I found on my trip there was far from innocent tourism  … my only thought was, "What terrible thing went wrong here?"

The very first thing I spotted on the shore was evidence of highly suspicious Mole activities. Whatever they were up to, it looked like they left in a hurry, leaving behind their building supplies.

Worse than that, it appeared to me that they had clear cut the area, removing all the trees and leaving a swath of dead stumps in their wake … the destruction of natural resources stretched before me … horrendous and vast.

Again, I asked myself, "What must have happened here?"

I could not help but speculate on this. Why did they cut down all the trees? Had they needed to build boats to escape? Had they used the wood for signal fires? Had they used the wood to build something else?

And then I saw them … the trees and bushes that had been left behind ... all C A N N A B I S.

Cannabis everywhere. Had this been an illicit grow area? Had the Moles been running an illegal pot farm right under the nose of Linden Lab? Had they become so crazed on the Devil's Lettuce that they chopped down most of the trees in a fit of dank THC induced hallucination?

And right about then was when I spotted them … a stranded herd of Pink Flamingos. These poor, abandoned creatures. Why were they here? Had the Pot Addicted Moles been using them for experiments? Or worse - eaten as snacks, when they got the munchies?

It was all far too terrible to imagine.

Some of the remaining trees appeared to have twisted and knotted trunks which reminded me of images I'd seen regarding exposure to high levels of radiation. Had they accidentally irradiated this place? Had there been a nuclear reactor built out here? Were they testing bombs out here?

And who laid these giant, fibrous yellow eggs? Had this been one of those Jurassic Park test islands? Was Spielberg somehow involved?

Further on, I came across pieces of curious ancient technology. Had this also been left by the Moles? Was I looking at an Outer Space Alien Mole invasion? Could it be that Moles actually come from another planet? Had they built their base camp here?

And that was when I spotted it - The Icarus Rocket! They must have used it to arrive here. The power source and mechanized loading system were still operational. But I'd neglected to bring my hazmat suit and was far too scared of radiation poisoning to try it out.

Perhaps someone should go over the area with a Giger Counter, just to be safe.

Soon after discovering the rocket, I spotted their articulating, animated Planetarium. This MUST have been used as their map for space travel. Perhaps even serving as an interdimensional travel portal?

There remains so many questions. What were they doing here? Where did they go? Why did they leave all this cannabis behind? And what about those poor abandoned Flamingos?

Travel Info

Mare Secundus has 3 public rez areas.

Mare Secundus Rez Zone

Icarus Island Rez Zone

Thurston Rez Zone

Thurston is a very small outcropping of land with a dock. Please be advised that the Illicit Mole Cannabis also grows wild here.

There are many ways to reach the Islands - this was the way I got there. Taking my boat up river from my home at Foxtail Bend, which offers 2 public boat rez areas for your convenience.

Here's the SLURL to the Northern Dock Rez Zone area - http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Mallard/164/224/22

As I finish writing this blog entry to you, I still have no idea what really happened at Mare Secundus. Perhaps we shall never know.

Perhaps it's better for all of us that we never find out … but I suspect the truth is out there.

Until next time - Stay curious and enjoy your travels.
