The Forgotten Welcome Area Info Hubs

Although Info Hubs still exist, their utility has mostly been replaced by The Official Welcome Hub of Second Life.

At the end of this article I'll provide a SLURL list of all active Info Hubs that remain in SL, however, today I want to share 2 that I discovered, with the help of my 'partner in crime', who has been in SL over 21 years and has a wealth of indispensable, historical knowledge about this virtual world.

From Jeremey Linden (last edited in 2018) - What is an Info Hub?

"An Infohub (also known as a Welcome Area) is a place where Residents congregate and socialize, and where there are usually kiosks providing Second Life information. Infohubs can be fun places for new Residents to hang out and learn about the world.

Official Info hubs are owned by Linden Lab and mostly built by Residents, but some Residents run their own, unofficial social spaces which they also call Infohubs."

Infohubs are represented on the World Map with blue i's, like this:

The Waterhead Welcome Area / Info Hub,  which is unlisted and pretty much forgotten, is located in northwestern Sansara.

Much of the information found there on the signs in Waterhead are outdated, but it has a working game area and a free sailboat down on the docks.

It also has some very distinctive North American Indian Totem poles created by Eric Linden.

Another even more forgotten Info Hub is Meadowbrook. Located on a far-flung, nameless continent, as illustrated by this map.

Desolate and empty, it appears to be in one of the old, abandoned housing areas from 2006, described as "luxury housing" and owned by Governor Linden.

I absolutely love finding, exploring, and researching places like this.  I hope you enjoy learning about them, too.

Until next time … stay curious and enjoy your travels.
